A Whack on the Head

The horse was jumping and bucking. A real spectacle. Not just straight bucking but high jumping, twisting and kicking. Much like a young colt does when they are playing.

I remember it all being kind of a blur as I lay on the ground with people looking over me. My memory was playing back a ride in slow motion with me getting more off-balance to the right after each buck.

Although I couldn’t remember hitting the ground—based on how my shoulder and head felt—I had definitely taken a good whack on the head.

Nothing was making any sense—they were asking me how old I was and how many fingers they held up. But my only comment was -- what horse was that? For the life of me I couldn’t think of a horse on the place capable of that kind of bucking. When they told me it was Ladybug, I gave a knowing nod because although she was our best trained horse—she was also a cutting horse and the most athletic on the place. In fact I then recalled seeing her in the pasture on cold mornings bucking and twisting much like during my short ride.

It really wasn’t Ladybug’s fault. Just as I swung up on the saddle a young colt started kicking and bucking at Ladybug. She totally forgot I was on board and joined the colt in the fun.

Even though Glen, my younger brother, reminded me that it was less than eight seconds—I was certainly “Riding my Dream”! And while there was no “Hi Ho Silver,” I sure landed in a cloud of dust!

Over the years I’ve been thrown by more than a half dozen different horses. This doesn’t make me a good rider, but it does make me experienced. Which brings me to a question about our personal and business lives that most of us should answer—Are we good or just experienced?

We have been manufacturing Woodpro Personalized Bath Cabinetry since 1977, which makes us “experienced.” We hope you’ve found that we are “good” at it as well.
